In this area, there are some spinning shapes on the walls and a puzzle piece directly in the middle of the right one you can grab. Artifact 2/3 “Playstation Portable” – After riding the rotating platform, there is a switch on the other side which creates a lily pad platform back to the right. You need to jump to the left to reach a room with another rotating platform. Puzzle Piece 4/4– While on the floating ice platforms, this puzzle piece is in the air while you are on the second one.

Head up to where the checkpoint is, and on the raised platform behind the pink plant is a small outcropping. n188 are completely optional, so if you don’t have the time (or the storage space to redownload Astro’s Playroom), know that they won’t give you much of an advantage in Astro Bot. Bots are used to access new areas and puzzles, and since you’ll encounter most of the 300 bots in the sequel without too much effort, you can unlock what you need without what Astro’s Playroom can give you. A number of special bots were added to Astro’s Playroom in the months leading up to the release of Astro Bot.

Every single PS2 God of War was released in a PS3 collection in 2009, while the PSP duo were in 2011. Astro’s Playroom could easily have been a simple tech demo, and in a way it is that. Its main function is to demonstrate the possibilities of the DualSense. It’s the kind of charming 3D adventure rarely seen outside of Nintendo, one dripping with inventive ideas and heartwarming details.

Tearaway is also references in the PlayStation Labo area, where it’s on the PlayStation Vita Game Pack artwork, and the Vita itself will boot to “Botaway” if you hit it. It is worth mentioning that if you accidentally die by picking up an earlier piece of the puzzle, its place will be replaced by a transparent piece of the puzzle. Also, all coins and coin containers are renewed after your rebirth or after starting the level anew. If you want to own all the collectibles in the game, you’ll need up to 6,000 coins to win prizes in the PlayStation Lab’s prize draw machine.

Astro’s Playroom is a fantastic tech demo game that showcases the capabilities of the DualSense controller. The haptic feedback, motion sensor, and adaptive triggers make a significant difference, and the game successfully demonstrates these features. The game itself is enjoyable, featuring four distinct levels that offer unique gameplay experiences. Players can glide into the air, transform into a cannonball and roll their way to the finish line, become a robot monkey, and do some mountain climbing. Additionally, players can transform into a robot frog, allowing them to jump into action. Astro’s Playroom also includes collectibles that represent the history of PlayStation, spanning from the PS1 era to the PS5 era.

If you need more coins you can go replay levels you’ve already completed, grabbing the Puzzle Pieces and Artifacts again because those give a large number of coins when you obtained them again. There’s a number of these suits where the gameplay switches to 2D and you turn into a robot on a spring, that’s directed via motion controls and a press of the adaptive triggers. There’s also a rocket that works in a similar manner but where you have to push past the resistance it offers to fire the jets – which can also set fire to fuses and the game’s Bob-omb stand-ins.

Each level also features a suit of some sort he puts on to take the form of something else, such as a spring-loaded robot or even a large metallic ball, reminiscent of Marble Madness. These segments are relatively short-lived but do a good job of shaking up the formula so the running and jumping doesn’t get too stale too quickly. The remaining three puzzle pieces are all up the platforming path created when you pull the wire that’s up the ramp between the Memory Meadow and Cooling Springs entrances. Sony Interactive Entertainment realized that shipping Astro’s Playroom as a free demo could set the bar high for what a true next-generation game should feel like. There are not many games released in recent memory that have utilized the DualSense controller, like Japan Studio. The fun gameplay mixed with the nostalgia is a potent mix of a successful game.

The Playroom

Taking place in medieval Persia, players control an unnamed protagonist who must venture through a series of dungeons to defeat the evil Grand Vizier Jaffar and save an imprisoned princess. There are small animals such as crabs, rabbits, and toucans that can be found throughout Astro’s Playroom. However, they have an even more useful purpose in that they can contribute to the player’s coin collection efforts. One hit yields one coin, two hits yield two coins, but three hits will yield the maximum of seven coins, meaning that interested individuals might want to put some serious effort into this. Please note that if they get killed, they will need to re-collect all of the coins since the last checkpoint, meaning that there is extra incentive for them to be careful. Or at least some more replayable sections for things I actually enjoyed.

Artifact 1/2 “PS One LCD Monitor” – Continue along that path to the end where the group of bots are and pull the wires on the ground to reveal this artifact. Puzzle Piece 1/4 – At the second checkpoint instead of going forward, go to the left and up to a platform where you can find a spot to blow into the mic. Puzzle Piece 3/4 – When you reach the next checkpoint, before going down the ramp, follow the path back to the right where you can hit a small jump which propels you into the air to grab this puzzle piece. Puzzle Piece 2/4 – After going underneath the large controller statue and entering the road area, this puzzle piece is on the left on the section of music chips.

Keep track of your progress using in-game checklists to ensure no collectibles are missed. Patience and thorough exploration are key to unlocking everything the game has to offer‚ including its hidden trophies and special bots. To efficiently unlock all trophies in Astro Playroom‚ start by completing the main story while collecting as many puzzle pieces and artifacts as possible. Backtrack to previous levels to gather any missed collectibles‚ ensuring you don’t miss out on hidden trophies.

Review Difficulty Level

Instead of jumping left to the next Checkpoint, you should jump up the ledges on the rock wall to get to the top. Each level of the game has at least a few checkpoints, so do not worry if Astro is accidentally killed. Especially if he’s grabbed a collector’s item while performing a difficult stunt.

This fellow was in the Dinosaur Tech demo to show the power of the PlayStation at rendering a single character. The T. Rex makes many other appearances in Astro’s Playroom, including the Dreams reference in Renderforest and some of the screens in the PlayStation Labo area. Yet another unlockable display for the Labo area is a Bot throwing a blue boomerang around. The shape is a reference to the infamous “Boomerang” prototype controller, an unofficial name for the controller that was shown alongside the PlayStation 3 when it debuted. The controller would be dropped in favour of the more familiar DualShock design.

Someone Finally Managed To Escape From Tarkov In Escape From Tarkov

A full-length sequel, Astro Bot, was announced on May 30, 2024, and was released for the PlayStation 5 on September 6, 2024. As someone that has owned and loved every single PlayStation console from the PS1 to the PS Vita and PS4, it was an absolute treat to play Astro’s Playroom. I don’t hide the fact that I’m a genuine PlayStation fan, wearing PS symbol t-shirts often and sporting my Crash Bandicoot controller holder — it’s not really a secret.

You’ll be greeted with a message that says a special bot is hidden somewhere in Deep Dataspace. See in action a level of Astro’s Playroom, the platformer that comes free with your PlayStation 5 and shows off the cool new features of the DuelSense controller. You don’t usually see this kind of charm and polish in the genre unless it has Mario’s name attached to it. He has a simple move set consisting of a jump, a hover, and some punches.
