The Puzzle Pieces are needed to unlock new areas in the Crash Site hub area. The 10 Wormholes unlock 10 Secret Levels in the ‘Lost Galaxy’. After finishing all 10 Secret Levels you unlock the 11th Secret Level. Astro Bot is beautiful, and not just in a cartoony kind of way.

It is the 5th game in the Astro Bot series, released after Astro’s Playroom (2020). Simply put, this feature makes collecting all bots and other secrets in the game trivially easy. TG88 ‘s a lovely idea, and we hope it finds its way into other games that could use it similarly in years to come. Five new levels are already planned to be added to Astro But starting on July 10th, further expanding the number of courses and bots in the game. These include Twin-Frog Trouble, Suck It Up, Handhold Havoc, and high Inflation. The fifth level remains a mystery, but Team Asobi did tease a new bot for Ghost of Yotei.
As the player progresses, they’ll unlock new pathways and cosmetics not just for Astro but for the PS-themed Bots. The ever-growing install base of the PS5 has allowed many players around the world to enjoy Astro’s Playroom. Filled with references to hardware throughout PlayStation’s history and boasting an abundance of cameo appearances from popular characters, Astro’s Playroom celebrated PlayStation’s history in a unique way. This made Astro not just the new kid on the block, but established the bot as a character integral to the PlayStation brand. Today, PlayStation’s cinematic blockbuster titles still mostly cater to a mature audience, but Team Asobi is taking a different approach. The studio’s roster of delightful robots and the inventive gameplay with which they and players interact have been compared with the Nintendo way.
It’s not brand-new for the series at this point, but still hits all the right spots. It’s clear from the very first frame of Astro Bot just how much love and reverence Team Asobi has for the history of Sony’s consoles and their library of games. You choose a new save file by selecting one of three original PlayStation memory cards and are then thrust into a scene taking place on your PS5-shaped mothership. That mothership crash lands on a desert planet after an evil alien attack, and Astro must now travel the galaxy searching for its missing parts and crewmates. Some of those biggest unexpected treats are the new powers that Astro gets along his journey.
The scale of some of these battles is truly mind-boggling, with each one sporting a different exciting mechanic that keeps the player guessing right up until the credits roll. The formula is very much the same as those other games, as players control Astro in dozens of levels, hopping and bopping across various colorful locales. As you can see, Square Enix finally caved and allowed Final Fantasy 7 characters to be part of the game!
As a casual fan of platformers, Astro Bot blew me away and reminded me of the nostalgia and fun that is to be had with the genre. The last time to do this was Nintendo’s Super Mario Odyssey, which is a very high standard to beat or match in recent years. Needless to say, Astro Bot exceeded my expectations by being nearly perfect in almost every aspect of the game. The story of the game isn’t all that compelling; however, the fact that it’s able to tell a story and make it understandable without a single line being spoken means something. The motivation of the game is to rescue the missing crew members of the now-broken PS5 mothership due to the damage caused by their nemesis. It’s nothing fancy, yet somehow it’s able to sneak in amazing interactions between the bots, and that just makes everything a lot better than I think it actually is.
I was sunder the impression that Astro’s Playroom especially blew their minds to people who never played the actual VR game. Now bring back Jak and Daxter, Sly Raccoon and Ape Escape please. A good game is a good game yes, but a game that may appeal to one person will not appeal to another. However reviews and scores you would think would then be balanced.
The first one players are likely to encounter is the Bulldog which plays a large role in Astro Bot’s first boss fight against Mighty Chewy. The Bulldog can rocket players forward and break through objects and surfaces like glass. The Chicken will propel them upward and the Penguin will propel players underwater. They are adorable animals but they’re also kind of one note depending on the situation. Five new levels are set to be added, beginning today with Tick-Tock Shock as found in the new Vicious Void Galaxy for players to test their skills. Not every level does require you to be quick on your feet, but it’s a good reminder for when you’re tackling some of the harder levels. Team Asobi has teased that tools will eventually be added to Astro Bot that should appeal to speedrunners. With that tool and a bit of post-launch content updates, Astro Bot’s fun could last a lot longer than it does, and that would be a welcome inclusion for a game with a short run time. Still, any frustration with the game ultimately stems from wanting more of what Astro Bot provides, which at its core is a top-tier platformer with innovation, charm, and enjoyment to spare. When the PS5 launched, it included a free game called Astro’s Playroom. The short adventure worked as an effective tech demo, starring Astro, for the PS5’s multifaceted (and heavily underutilized) DuelSense controller.
I am very happy to see Astro Bot is such a polished 3D platformer. I never thought i see the day push square giving a ps game a 10 score .. [newline]Sony seem to misunderstand and think everything needs to be a 100 million, 60 hour epic in order to sell. They could easily fund 3 or 4 quality 20 hour titles (see uncharted lost legacy, Miles morales) for a fraction of the cost and at significantly reduced development times.
